Importing a Pet Dog into Canada by Air

Orbit can arrange the clearance with both as long as your documents are in order. The documentation requirements to import a dog are based on the age of the canine at the time of arrival.

Importing Puppies Less Than 8 Months Of Age

To import a cuddly puppy that is less than 8 months of age at time of arrival, the following documents are required for clearance;

Agency Agreement which Orbit Brokers provides
Photo ID of the importer
Invoice for the purchase of the dog, and proof of payment
Copy of the air waybill
Health Certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian

It is important to note that the Health Certificate must be issued no more than 72 hours prior to the puppy’s arrival in Canada.

Importing Puppies Less Than 8 Months Of Age

To import a cuddly puppy that is less than 8 months of age at time of arrival, the following documents are required for clearance;

Agency Agreement which Orbit Brokers provides
Photo ID of the importer
Invoice for the purchase of the dog, and proof of payment
Copy of the air waybill
Health Certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian

It is important to note that the Health Certificate must be issued no more than 72 hours prior to the puppy’s arrival in Canada.

Importing Dogs Over 8 Months of Age

To import a dog that is over 8 months of age at time of arrival, the following documents are required to complete the clearance;

As you can see, the only difference is that a rabies vaccination certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian is needed in place of the Health Certificate. Otherwise the requirements to import a pet dog of any age are the same.

Our Process

Your first step is to obtain the above documentation and send it to us. We will get the customs entry prepared. Once your dog’s flight arrives in Toronto, Orbit will obtain the documents from the airline. We will present the entry to Customs and once they process the shipment, we will pay the taxes on your behalf. Taxes on imports of pet dogs into Toronto is 13% HST. Once the shipment is inspected and released, Orbit will then return the release to the airline so you can pick up your new best friend!
